Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour October 6
The Original Trotwood Covered Bridge Tour is back after an
eight-year hiatus to enjoy nearby covered bridges and country scenery in Ohio's
Montgomery and Preble Counties. The tour starts at 8am on Saturday
October 6th at the Trotwood Community Center.
Depending on their skill level riders can choose a 45-mile or 100-mile loop
that ends back in Trotwood. “If you go the hundred miles you will see
four covered bridges, three iron truss bridges and a stone arch bridge,"
said organizer Joel Conover.
The 45-mile loop skips two of the covered bridges and two of the iron bridges
but adds some unique surprises of its own according to Conover.
Conover has taken over the tour his father started when he operated a bicycle
shop (Trotwood Peddler) in Trotwood in the 1970’s. The first time this
tour was offered was 1971 and it has only run a few times. “It’s
going to be every year from now on,” promises Conover.
Assuming an average speed of 10-mph for intermediate riders expect the tour
to take about 5 hours plus time for stops at the bridges and lunch. There
will be a hearty bikers lunch provided at the midway point for each loop.
Additional rest stops are planned with food and beverage available.
“We are also providing an on call assistance wagon if riders experience
problems,” said Conover. “They will be able to make some on-the-road
repairs or bring you back to the start.”
Starting at 7am, before the ride, there will be an “anything bicycle
swap meet” in the parking lot of the Trotwood Community Center.
Conover asks everyone to get his or her registration
in by mid September to guarantee a T-Shirt.
The registration fee includes the T-Shirt, lunch, maps, and the cell phone
number for emergency road service. The fee is $20 in advance or $25 the day
of the ride. A registration for can be downloaded at www.TotallyTrotwood.com
or call Conover at (937)623-4447.
The Covered Bridge Tour is co-sponsored by Conover Graphics, City
